Consider the self-portrait

So, yesterday I wrote about cheap ways of getting a life model. One thing I didn’t mention is that there’s one model who will never let you down, never be hard to get hold of and will always be around when you need them - and that is yourself.
So long as you have access to a mirror - or indeed to your own deeply-ingrained inner perception of yourself - you have a model. Someone who will stay still, unflinching, while you stare deep into their eyes, or try to capture every nuance of their face (in my case, that means wrinkles and the bags under my eyes). Let’s face it, you’re your ideal subject. No-one - not even your most ardent admirer - has as many thoughts and opinions about you as you do.
You need not limit yourself to face-on views. Set up a couple of mirrors, and you’ll be seeing yourself from whatever angle you choose. I am not going to go as far as to suggest that you set yourself up in a Marks and Spencers’ changing room, but the other day I did happen to notice that they have a 360 degree mirror arrangement in there. Which actually backfired, as, seeing myself as others do, I immediately threw down the clothes I was trying on and bolted. But that’s a different issue.
You have until midnight tonight GMT to vote for Draw Anyway in the Brighton and Hove web awards, and then that’s that - no more nagging. So, if you haven’t voted yet, please do so. The awards ceremony is on Thursday night, when the results will be announced. I shall be sure to report back.
