Links: Alphabet books

As I wrote about using letters in art last week, I thought this was a highly relevant link: Beyond the Letters, accompanying website to an exhibition by the Canadian national library and archives. It shows a selection of scans from a wide range of alphabet books going back to 1859, and shows how the subject has provided a rich source of inspiration for many illustrators. The ‘related sites’ page is full of interesting links, for example, this one to Bembos’ Zoo, which sees letters rearrange themselves into animals. If that makes no sense, go and have a look and you’ll see what I mean.
We’ve been shortlisted for a Brighton Web Award! Yes, I know you know! I’m going to keep mentioning it anyway! Until November 14th, when voting closes! So go and vote for Draw Anway! Please!

Very interesting! I love Bembo’s Zoo so much. I was amazed by all the different animals and X-ray wolf made me laugh.
Definitely something I’ll consider doing with my little brother.
Also congrats on the nomination! I hope you win.
