Links: Mini Grey
I was interested to read a review of a fresh-sounding children’s book by Mini Grey the other day. The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon tells of what happens after the famous nursery rhyme characters elope with one another. Rather uselessly, however, the accompanying drawings have not been replicated on the online version of the review, but it’s still worth reading for insights into her working practices.
A quick web search ensures that you know - because you read it many times - that she was born in a Mini, hence her name. For personal reasons, I was also interested to see that she completed the same Illustration MA that I did at Brighton university - though clearly, she’s a far more assured artist. Finally I came across some images, one of which you can see above. They are from Edition 3.
Draw Anyway readers with kids might be interested in a line from the review: [Since having a baby] “there’s no spare time just now to indulge her lifelong passion for learning new things”. I had a slightly hollow laugh at that. I guess they mean new things in art, because, frankly, when you have a baby, you do nothing but learn new things for a couple of years.
