Link: Comica festival

Having written a little bit about what comic strips mean to me not long ago, I thought today’s link ought to be to the forthcoming Comica festival at London’s ICA. Sometimes I wish my life wasn’t quite so busy, because what with childcare and work, I can’t see myself getting to more than one of these events - and they all sound so fab!
For example, there are talks around the kind of kids’ comics that Brits of my age grew up on, be they boys or girls.
Nick Abadzis, whom I well remember from the days of Deadline magazine, is talking about his new project, Laika.
Jeffrey Lewis, “anti-folk singer-songwriter and comic-book artist” will be playing an illustrated acoustic set.
Posy Simmonds, my great hero and default answer to the ‘who would you like to be stuck in a lift with/have at your dinner party/name your child after’ question is talking about her work.
And two graphic artists from Italy are speaking about their work. I’d never heard of Gipi or Igort, but the artwork used to accompany this event’s details (above) really appealed.
Don’t forget the Small Press Fair if you make your own comics or want to be inspired by those of others.
Comica runs from 19th October to the 6th November 2007. Will you be there?
