    Pick a theme

A fun way to draw is to pick a single subject. For example, on a recent train journey, I drew every lamp post I saw from the window.

When you get up tomorrow, you could decide on a subject. You might choose hair, bags, street signs, doors - anything that interests you. And you might draw them all in one trip, or over a long period of time - a lifetime, even. One thing’s for sure, the sum is greater than the parts. There is something very appealing about seeing a lot of similar pictures grouped together.

This is about half of my lampposts.

This was a wonderful task to take on. Over the years my daughters have been collecting little pieces of broken china they find in the garden, the park, the river bank and other places. We’ve got a couple of jars full now, and today it struck me they’d be perfect for this project. And I got to use my new watercolours too :-)

WOW! That is so brilliant, both the idea and the execution!

thanks, I’m going to do a few more today. I loved doing them. I think what’s nice about this task is that you can do several little pictures, and you can add them as you go along, so it’s less daunting somehow than attempting one big picture.
