    Weekend draw: self-portrait

Self portraitHello all! I think I posted ’self-portrait’ as a weekend subject before, but I don’t recall anyone commenting on that occasion, so I’m trying again. Come on guys! I need to know I’m not posting into a void! And I’d love to see what you all look like.

As usual, here’s this week’s round-up. Feel free to go back and comment; these posts are not yet closed.

    > On Monday, I asked whether you find it easier to draw faces one way than the other.

    > On Tuesday, I conitnued one of this blog’s themes - drawing with children - and mentioned the joy of drawing and sculpting in sand.

    > On Wednesday, I suggested you throw away all your pictures. No, really!

    > On Thursday, I told you that a little exaggeration doesn’t harm anyone.

    > And on Friday, I told you one way to begin pictures of people.

    Have a happy weekend, y’all!

I’m sure there are plenty of people taking in what you’re saying without commenting, I know you’re not talking to yourself even if it feels like it sometimes! Thank you so much for running this. It’s a big help to me.

Self-portraits are a challenge. In one way I’m always doing them, because most of my knowledge of how people go together comes from looking at myself; but when I really look in the mirror I see someone who looks a little different to my mental picture of myself, and that’s a strange feeling. I haven’t sat down to draw myself for months, and last time was a disaster. I might not have got around to trying again for a long time if I hadn’t had Drawanyway as a reason.

    Here’s my self-portrait.

Aw thanks! And you’re commenting enough for a few people, tee hee! That is a great piece of work, whether or not it looks like you. And if it does, well, you’re ever so pretty! What gorgoeus hair. Apart from anything else, it makes a really lovely focus for the picture.

Hello! Here is my self-portrait, I did it very quickly using a 2B pencil and sketchbook in front of my wardrobe mirror. I’m amused that I’m looking STRAIGHT AHEAD in the portrait with lips firmly clamped shut, like Anne Boleyn or something:

As you can see though, it really doesn’t look that much like me at all; I was always pretty bad at faces although once I drew a picture of my friend Lucy that looked EXACTLY like her and my art teacher thought I was a genius… sigh. I think I captured my scruffy hair quite well though ;)

(also yes, I have been extremely rubbish about commenting but I read avidly every day and very much enjoy the pictures that you post. I did a mini taskette and looked at the drawing above in a mirror and - hey presto! - it looked very lopsided and even less like me ;))
