Draw it and throw it away
Yesterday’s post got me thinking. Drawing in sand is very liberating, because even as you draw, you know that the sea or the rain will erase your image. If you have a toddler with you, they might destroy it before even that has a chance to happen.
Ironically, the best drawing is sometimes the stuff you know you’re going to throw away. Why? Because there’s absolutely no pressure. You’re drawing to please no-one. You’re indulging in the pure physical act of drawing rather than thinking about the end product.
See if this helps you. Draw something and promise yourself that you are going to throw it away. On absolutely no account will you save it and post it here.
Unless it comes out really, really good, that is.
