Find the art in your life
Over in my personal blog, I posted not long ago about a trip I’d made to the garden centre. I ended up buying a huge forsythia in full yellow bloom, and pushing it home in the pushchair while my toddler daughter rode on my shoulders.
The other day at work, a colleague of mine was telling me about how her own toddler daughter had embarrased her by slipping from her grasp at a dog show, and running loose across the ring, hotly pursued by her mother, while the dogs delightedly chased them both.
And at half past seven one morning, my daily commute to work was enriched by the sight of a tuba player, with his instrument wrapped around him, tenderly kissing his lover goodbye.
What do these three incidents have in common?
Well, they are all real-life moments that have a touch of the visual about them. In the case of the forsythia story, I didn’t realise until a blogmate had commented about it - she said something like, ‘What a lovely image that conjures up’.
Ever since then, I’ve been mentally making notes of the little incidents, tiny things that have no particular importance, but which might make a good picture.
How about you? Can you recall any similarly visual experiences you’ve had lately? How about telling us, or even better, drawing us a picture?

Last night, in the sunshine after the rain, I came upon a huge slug stripping the last leaf off one of the sunflowers I’d bought to replace the ones I’d grown from seed (that were also devoured by slugs), blew my top and went on a salting rampage around the garden, sprinkling slugs with gay abandon. Damian turned up and started finding more slugs for me to sprinkle, “you missed one” — which made it, um. Less fun.
P.S. I particularly like the horn-player’s shoes ;)
I bought my boyfriend a pair of shoes almost identical to those. They are AWESOME
Phwoar!
I can’t help admitting that this look (faux-smart suit with open-necked shirt, cheeky hat and vintage shoes) is my number one all time weakness in boys.
Ew, I am not at all sure I want to see the slug episode in any visual form. The imagination is bad enough.
As for the shoes, I started at the top of the drawing, and the shoes was when I began to remember how I wanted to draw… :S
