Links : Colin Thompson
Hello everyone! I’m back - thanks so much for keeping reading and commenting while I was away (and grr to spammers; I’ve put stronger moderation back in place). I’m hoping to find time to reply to everyone over the next few days. Since this is a blog about not having any time, you’ll have to be patient with me…
Anyway, this week’s link, since we were drawing with a computer last week, is the children’s book illustrator Colin Thompson. It’s amazing how much detail he can create, and you’ll notice he touches on some of the same points about the benefits of working this way.
Amazing, isn’t it?

Bloody hell, I should make more time and keep up with the internets and stuff.
I LOVE Colin Thompson. And the reason I LOVE Colin Thompson, and the reason I discovered Colin Thompson, is because I used to work with his daughter, Alice when I was living in Ireland. In fact, I moved into her house (though only as she was moving out). She told me about her Dad, I went to look in the bookshops to see what he did, and fell in love with it immediately - I’m holding on to a few of the books to give to Ned / Tom when they’re old enough to appreciate what they’re getting.
I can only commend you on your choice of links!
Ha ha, that’s nice! I must say, he wasn’t my first choice of children’s illustrator, though I very much appreciate what he does. I’m drawn more to freer, more cartoony styles I suppose - but I found it very interesting what he does and I admire the work.
It’s the incredible detail that appealed to me - row after row of books, each different, all with appalling puns as titles.
