Weekend draw: kitchenware
I’m officially on holiday, with no internet access! But don’t worry, I’ve lined up posts for the week. I’m relying on you guys to post and to respond to one another while I’m away. Do comment on each other’s work - it’s nice to get feedback!
Here’s a summary of the week’s posts:
-> On Monday, I talked about finding enough time in the day to draw and asked you to do just that.
-> On Tuesday, we drew bigger in an attempt to fill the page.
-> On Wednesday, conversely, we looked at the strange things that happen when you blow up tiny images.
-> Then I showed you my wedding anniversary card.
-> On Thursday, talk turned to mark-making.
-> And on Friday, I made a start on the huge subject of drawing people.
None of these threads are closed, so you are welcome to go back and join in. Meanwhile, let’s all draw together again. This weekend the subject is - kitchenware! Bowls, bottles, plates, a jug, glasses, whatever pleases you. Pick something you like to look at*.
* Think about it, you already made a visual decision when you brought these things into your home. Perhaps you can bring out what it is you like best about these objects when you draw them.

Thanks for posting your drawings too, they’re gorgeous. Love the colours on the tins, what did you use? I’ve been madly busy but I hope to catch up with a few of the tasks this week.
Cheers! This was a picture I did a while back and it was in watercolour. Which I should dig out again.
This was fun, thanks!
they are lovely rich colours - how long did these take to draw? I am a bit scared of using colour straight onto the page.
Thanks! I just used the colour pencils, no shading or attempts to mix them. (This is my first effort in a long time after all). I didn’t think that marmite or vegemite would like quite right in monochrome.
Don’t be afraid of colour, see how much more lively your second post is. It gives depth, even in plain blocks. I like your two jugs one inside the other.
:)
P.S. I think it took about half an hour.
I love this, maybe because I am fond of loose lined pictures of typography. Ace colours and great reflection on the Marmite jar.
I started off drawing these with a black pen (to see if I could draw without rubbing out)
Then I tried your tip of scanning and colouring in Photoshop - really chuffed with it even though I say so myself :-) the colour brings it to life I think, and if Id tried to use coloured pens I’m sure I’d've got into all sorts of a mess with it.
I absolutely love both versions. Can I say Patrick Caulfield?!!
my last post didn’t show up, so I’ll try again….
part one: a quick pen drawing of some kitchen jugs
part two: in the past when I’ve tried to use colours by hand it ruins the whole thing, so I thought I’d follow your tip of drawing by hand then using Photoshop to colour in the scan - I am really surprised and pleased at how well this turned out!
Whoops, I meant to rub out the pencil marks before I photographed this… Nevertheless, some ketchup. It’s a bit wonky, but I saw all sorts of details I hadn’t noticed on a ketchup bottle before while I was doing it!
Also loving this… would you like to take over?! I think felt pen is an ideal medium for bright red ketchup.
Heh, no! I am out of ideas for drawing things at the moment, so I need you to spur me on!
